Well, once upon a time, there was a very nice interdictor, called the Sabre.
The Sabre was actually really rather sexy. It was _fairly_ fast. It could fit a medium shield extender, and it could do damage outside web range. The fact that it also fit a bubble blower, was just the icing on the cake. It became actually quite a dangerous little combat ship.
Now this ship, because it was actaully quite good for soloing, became somewhat prevalent, to the point where no one used interceptors any more.
The other interdictors ... well, weren't _bad_ exactly, but had their limitations.
The Eris, for example, could be both faster, and more damaging than the Sabre, at the same time. But it lacked midslots, and it lacked the ability to buffer tank in quite the same way.
Oh and it had a split weapon system, which made all the Gallente pilots turn their noses up sneeringly, declaring missiles inferior and therefore the 5 turret interdictor to be crap.
The Flycatcher, had it's niceties. It was the slowest of the lot. It had only one lowslot. But 5 mids is rather nice, and then they made it _just about_ able to fit standard launchers. Mmmm. Lovely.
And then there was the Heretic, which at the time, was a laser ship. And I didn't see much of it, but it too, 'had it's problems'.
However, apart from the Sabre, none of them had that lovely synergy, of being quick, being able to buffer tank, and being able to hit outside web range, and having quite an impressive damage output.
The flycatcher _almost_ got there - it could do the buffer tank, and it could do damage outside web range, at least provided you'd got _really_ good skills. Or you could fit standard launchers - no buffer tank, but a good range, and ... well, precision missiles, which were really rather nice too, at least when they could actually hit small and fast ships.
But you see, whist the Sabre was actively good, the other Interdictors ranged from 'OK' to 'could use some help'. The Heretic even got it, and became a rocket ship too.
But what they _didn't_ need, was to get walloped to the ground, and have their speed dropped.
Especially the flycatcher, with it's one lowslot. And it's speed reducing ammo
It's seriously embarassing, having your small and fast ship, getting run down by CRUISERS.
I don't mind that interceptors got boosted in effectiveness. I don't mind that the Sabre got a _bit_ of a tweak (although personally I still think that was too much).
But I do definitely think, that the other three interdictors, in NO WAY shape or form, needed to get slowed down.
